Willys-Overland Hood Ornaments
John Willys bought Overland Automotive in 1908 and renamed it
Willys-Overland Motor Company. By 1918 Willy-Overland had become the second
largest producer of motorcars in the U. S. The Overland name was dropped from the autos in 1926. In 1941 Willys became the primary supplier of Jeeps for the US war effort. After the war, Willys decided not to resume production of passenger cars, choosing instead to register the Jeep trademark and concentrate on them. In 1953 Kaiser Motors bought Willys. The last Willys was produced in 1955, however the Jeep brand still survives.
Willys-Overlands and later Willys Motors produced several great models of automobiles. Some of the more notable were - Overland, Overland Whippet, Baby Overland, Willys 77, Willys-Knight, Stearns-Knight, Americar, Jeep and Aero-Willys. While prevalent on early models, hood ornaments were not common to most Willys autos after WWII. ![]() |
