Studebaker Hood Ornaments
Studebaker Bros. was originally
founded in 1852, as wagon manufacturer. Their first horseless carriage was sold in 1902. In
1904 gasoline powered engines replaced the early battery driven models. By 1915 Studebaker was selling more than 45,000 cars annually. In 1954, hoping to stem the tide of losses and bolster its market position, Studebaker allowed itself to be acquired by Packard.
From the 1920s to the 1960s, the South Bend company originated many styling models. Some of the more notable were - Commander, President, Dictator, Champion, Land Cruiser, Scotsman, Conestoga, Hawk, Golden Hawk, Silver Hawk, Sky Hawk, Flight Hawk, Power Hawk, Lark and Avanti. Hood ornamentation was a part of most Studebaker models right up to their demise in the early 1960's.![]() |
