Mercury Hood Ornaments

1947 Mercury ConvertibleThe Mercury division of Ford was formed in 1939, initially to provide a stylish motorcar somewhere between a standard Ford and the super luxurious Lincoln.
Mercury was its own division at Ford until 1945 when it was combined with Lincoln to form the new Lincoln-Mercury Division. Ford was hoping the brand would be known as a "junior Lincoln", rather than an upmarket Ford.

From the late 1950s, through the 1960s and early 1970s, Mercury began to distance itself from Ford and offered several different looking models. Some of the more notable are - Turnpike1958 Mercury Cruiser, Comet, Marauder, Brougham, Meteor, Capri, Montclair, Monterey, Colony Park, Zephyr, Voyager, Grand Marquis, Cougar, Montego, Monarch, Bobcat, Lynx, Topaz, and Tracer. Hood ornaments vanished on many models around 1960.
