Leland's primary goal was to build vehicles for upscale markets, but by 1922 severe financial problems forced the sell of the company at public auction. Henry Ford acquired the asset for a mere eight million dollars. A real bargain considering that under Ford's direction Lincoln quickly became one of America's top selling luxury brands alongside Packard and Cadillac.
